Community Food Internship Description

We are seeking 3-5 motivated, adaptable, and passionate individuals to fill the GoFarm Community Food internship positions. These positions may be full- or part-time, depending on the applicant’s availability. Interns will learn the essential operations of a nonprofit and increase their knowledge of our local food system in Colorado. They will work closely with the Local Food Share and Community Food Access program managers and other interns in a fun and collaborative team culture. Primary intern responsibilities will include assisting with food distribution for the LFS and CFA programs, providing excellent customer service, and learning about our local farmers and food justice issues. A final scope of work will be determined based on organizational needs and the intern’s strengths and interests.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage one of the LFS distribution locations, including setup and cleanup, conducting produce inventory, tracking customer data, managing volunteers, customer service, and problem solving

  • Receive and organize produce deliveries from farmers

  • Conduct produce inventory and assemble produce displays for LFS distributions and CFA markets

  • Manage setup and cleanup of CFA markets, including loading and transporting produce, supplies, marketing displays, sales tracking forms and equipment

  • Handle payments and keep records of sales at CFA markets, including cash, SNAP EBT and various other economic incentives

  • Assist with educational and fun childrens’ activities at CFA markets

  • Educate community members about local produce

  • Occasionally conduct or assist with food sampling or cooking demonstrations

  • Represent GoFarm by providing excellent customer service during LFS distributions and CFA markets; helping people pick out their produce and answering their questions

  • Conduct program evaluation and provide feedback to GoFarm staff 

  • Attend orientation and monthly educational workshops

  • Attend occasional meetings with community partners

  • Assist with communications and marketing

  • Learn about local producers and farmers, and help convey information about these local growers to community members

  • Comply with GoFarm’s Food Safety Plan

 

Requirements: 

  • Must have your own, reliable form of transportation and valid Driver’s License 

  • Must be 18 or older

  • Must be flexible, willing to learn, comfortable taking initiative

  • Must be willing to engage with and be welcoming toward customers and passersby 

  • Must be passionate about local food, food equity and/or sustainable food systems

  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs, stand for long periods of time, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

This position may be part-time or full-time (20-40 hrs/week) dependent on interns needs.

Compensation: $12/hr

Marketing Intern Description

We are seeking a motivated, adaptable, and passionate individual to fill the Marketing Internship position. The Intern will learn the essential operations of a nonprofit,  increase their knowledge of our local food system in Colorado, and assist with marketing tasks for GoFarm. The intern will work closely with the Marketing and Fundraising Manager, as well as with other interns and staff in a fun and collaborative team culture. Primary intern responsibilities will include assisting with emails, newsletters, social media, recipe compilation, taking pictures, event planning, as well as helping with food distribution markets for the LFS and CFA programs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with weekly emails for LFS customers which provide information on recipes, farmer stories, produce availability, etc.

  • Take quality pictures of GoFarm’s food distribution markets - showcasing the food, community, and comradery that GoFarm embodies

  • Assist with social media posts and promotions

  • Assist with monthly e-newsletters, drafting language and editing emails before sending

  • Assist with one LFS distribution location and/or one CFA market 1-2 times per week, including setup and cleanup, conducting produce inventory, restocking produce displays, and welcoming and engaging with customers

  • Represent GoFarm by providing excellent customer service during LFS distributions and CFA markets; helping people pick out their produce and answering their questions

  • Help raise awareness on the importance of eating local and educate community members about local produce

  • Assist with event planning for annual fundraiser

  • Occasionally conduct or assist with food sampling or cooking demonstrations

  • Learn about local producers and farmers, and help convey information about these local growers to community members

  • Comply with GoFarm’s Food Safety Plan

  • Attend orientation and educational workshops

  • Conduct internship evaluation and provide feedback to GoFarm staff

 

Requirements:

  • Must have strong writing and speaking skills

  • Must have an interest in marketing and social media

  • Must be willing to welcome and engage with customers and passersby during LFS distribution and CFA markets

  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs, stand for long periods of time, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

This position is part-time: 15-20 hrs/week

Compensation: $12/hr

Farm Internship Description

This internship is a seasonal position designed for individuals interested in learning about sustainable farming, local food production, market channel success, and building a lasting community. The internship offers exposure to and experience with technical farming skills, as well as marketing and sales for small farms. The intern will work ~20 hours a week with GoFarm Incubator Apprentices and the Farmer Assistance Program Manager helping with farm tasks. Farm plots are located throughout Jefferson County in Arvada, Lakewood, and Golden. Interns will spend time with several different apprentices throughout the season. Interns will also spend ~5 hours per week at GoFarm’s Local Food Share distribution events, learning about food distribution techniques, educational tools, and customer service. Interns will attend about 2 workshops per month, 1 through Denver Botanic Gardens and 1 facilitated by GoFarm. Interns will come out of the internship with a better understanding of Colorado agriculture, planting and harvesting techniques, marketing and sales avenues for small farms, and the urban agriculture community.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team, as well as individually on farm tasks

  • Assist with planting, cultivating, maintaining, and harvesting crops, as well as with general farm maintenance at apprentice farm sites

  • Assist with the GoFarm Local Food Share by helping with setup and breakdown of food distribution events, as well as helping customers pick up their weekly share

  • Conduct point of sale transactions for SNAP/EBT customers

  • Perform other duties as necessary requested by managers

  • Comply with all food safety plans

  • Attend orientation and monthly workshops

 

Requirements: 

  • Ability to work within a variety of conditions (i.e. endurance to work long days in diverse weather conditions), and ability to lift at least 40 pounds

  • Experience or interest in managing volunteers and working with children

  • Comfortable teaching and speaking in front of people

  • Ability to work as a team player, with people from diverse backgrounds including students/youth, people of different cultures, etc. 

  • Willingness to take initiative and follow through on tasks. Pragmatic, outcome-driven, positive, and forward thinking

  • Punctual and flexible availability including working some weekends and nights

  • Passion for helping develop a more sustainable and equitable local food system

  • Must be 18 or older

  • Must be willing to engage with and be welcoming toward customers and passersby

This position is part-time: ~25 hrs/week

Compensation: $12/hr

3 Internship Date Options:

  • Full Season: May 11th - Oct 23rd 2020 (26 weeks)

  • Summer: May 11th- Aug 7th 2020 (14 weeks)

  • Late Season: June 8th- Oct 23rd 2020 (20 weeks)
